Building Safety Month

New Hope Joins International Code Council for the Celebration of Building Safety Month
Posted on 05/03/2023
In May 2023, New Hope will participate in the 43rd annual Building Safety Month, a worldwide campaign presented by the International Code Council, its members, and partners to promote building safety. This year’s campaign, “It Starts with YOU!,” raises awareness about how building safety starts at home.

For more than 42 years, Building Safety Month has reinforced the need to adopt modern, regularly updated building codes. Building codes and local code officials assure us of safe, sustainable and affordable buildings essential to the prosperity of the New Hope community.

The City of New Hope recognizes that confidence in the buildings that make up our community is achieved through the devotion of building safety and fire prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders, tradespeople, laborers, plumbers, and others in the construction industry who work year-round to ensure the safe construction of buildings.

“I am proud of New Hope’s code enforcement officials and their work to support public safety within the community,” stated Community Development Director Jeff Sargent. “Building Safety Month recognizes the importance of building codes and the work these individuals do daily.”

The regulation of building construction in the United States dates to the 1700s. Today, the International Codes, developed by the Code Council and adopted by our community, are the most widely used and adopted set of building safety codes in the U.S. and worldwide.
