The city of New Hope has approved a two-year agreement with Hennepin County for an embedded social worker to be shared by the cities of New Hope, Crystal and Robbinsdale.

The Embedded Social Worker Project provides a variety of counseling, intervention, support and referral services for persons after police contacts, particularly in situations where mental health services are needed. The goal of the project is to reduce emergency situations and police contacts through early intervention by quickly identifying people in need, providing short-term assistance and connecting them with internal or community resources.

New Hope Police Chief Tim Hoyt stated, “I look forward to partnering with Hennepin County to increase the use of community resources to support individuals in times of need.”

Eight additional police agencies within Hennepin County already utilize the program including Brooklyn Park, Hopkins, St Louis Park, Plymouth, Minnetonka, Bloomington, Richfield and Edina.
