Posted on 01/25/2024
During the New Hope City Council Meeting on Jan. 22, two Human Rights Commissioners, Trista Rehnke and Donna Przepiora-Meyer, were recognized for their service to the community. The council and staff expressed their gratitude and thanked them for their contributions.

Rehnke was appointed to the Human Rights Commission in 2014 and served for nine years in various roles such as chair, co-chair and secretary. Przepiora-Meyer was appointed in 2016 and served seven years as the commission's chair.

The commissioners participated in various activities, including organizing educational events such as public speakers and documentary viewings. They were heavily involved in Adopt-A-Park cleaning, organizing and hosting Community Conversation events, introducing and organizing the Colors of the World project and display, participating in Iftar dinners and organizing student essay contests. They were involved in the Just Deeds Project and other community programs. Additionally, they were members of the Minnesota State Human Rights Symposium & Summit and volunteered with the New Hope RAVE! Awards, Food Group, Golden Valley Pride and New Hope Police Department Crime Prevention Association.

Last fall, Rehnke and Przepiora-Meyer opted to not be reappointed for another term.
