New Hope Announces Employee of the Year
Posted on 12/10/2020
Aaron Thelen, New Hope Recreation Supervisor, was named New Hope’s 2020 Employee of the Year at the employee recognition event held Dec. 3. Aaron joined the city of New Hope in 2017, and has continually worked to improve and expand recreational offerings for all ages.

Aaron was selected for the award not only for his perpetually positive attitude and the outstanding job he does every day, but also how he has gone above and beyond his usual job duties in an unusual year. When the pandemic threw the world upside down, Aaron jumped right in to help any way he could. He pitched in by working at the ice arena, golf course and wherever else he was needed, including picking up trash at Civic Center Park. Aaron also led the effort to develop social distancing, cleaning and sanitation protocols for New Hope Parks & Recreation so modified classes could be held. When an in-person format was not an option, Aaron worked diligently to find ways to hold virtual programs. Over the summer he transformed programming typically held indoors to outdoor programming and has worked tirelessly to create activity kits for families to use at home.

Aaron has exceeded expectations to keep programming and activities available, enjoyable and safe for New Hope families.
