New Hope Police Department’s Captain David Johnson, Sergeant Joshua Eernisse and Officer Joshua Arthur took the oath of office Monday night at the New Hope City Council Meeting.

The ceremony took place at the beginning of the meeting and, in addition to New Hope City Council and city staff, was attended by family, friends and members of the New Hope Police Department (NHPD).

Captain Johnson began his career as an officer with the NHPD in 1999. As an officer, Johnson served as a field training officer and SWAT team member before his promotion to patrol sergeant in 2006. As a sergeant, Johnson oversaw the department’s field training and traffic units, patrol fleet and equipment, training records and DWI compliance checks. Johnson was appointed to patrol captain in October 2021.

Sergeant Eernisse joined the NHPD in 2014, having previously served with the Mason City, Iowa Police Department. As an officer, Eernisse held several roles within the NHPD including field training officer, firearms instruction, school resource officer, mobile field force and SWAT member. Eernisse was promoted to sergeant in September 2021.

Officer Arthur joined the New Hope Police Department in 2021 after serving with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department.
