The New Hope Police Department would like to warn residents about an uptick in package thefts and potential “tailgaters” in the community. Tailgating is when thieves follow delivery vehicles with the intent of stealing packages.
Use the following tips to help protect your deliveries.
- Set up notifications for deliveries via phone or email to help monitor packages while in transit and upon delivery.
- Require a signature on your deliveries to ensure packages are never left unattended.
- When possible, schedule deliveries for a date and time that someone will be home.
- Retrieve packages as soon as possible. Don’t leave deliveries out on your steps.
- Consider having deliveries made to an alternate location where someone can receive them – ship-to-store, a workplace, neighbor or friend’s home, FedEx, UPS or Amazon delivery location.
- If you are traveling, make a plan. USPS will hold mail and packages at the post office for up to 30 days. FedEx and UPS also offer holds.
Community members are reminded to dial 911 immediately to report any suspicious person or vehicle.
