Have you ever wondered what it's like to respond to a call for service, process a crime scene, or work alongside a police K-9? The New Hope, Crystal and Robbinsdale Police Departments are inviting community members to find out by participating in this year's Community Police Academy.
The free, seven-week program offers residents a behind-the-scenes look at modern policing and the opportunity to learn directly from the officers who serve their communities. Through hands-on demonstrations, interactive discussions and classroom instruction, participants will gain a deeper understanding of police operations, the challenges officers face and the partnerships that help keep communities safe.
The Community Police Academy is open to adult residents of New Hope, Crystal and Robbinsdale of all ages and backgrounds. Classes are taught primarily by police officers from the three departments and provide an inside look at many aspects of law enforcement, including patrol tactics, criminal investigations, crime scene processing, court procedures, K-9 demonstrations, mental health in law enforcement, juvenile crime, narcotics investigations, police dispatching, use of force and crime prevention strategies.
The academy meets every Tuesday from Sept. 15 through Oct. 27, 2026. Because each session builds on the previous week's material, participants are expected to attend all seven classes. Space is limited, and a brief background check will be conducted on all applicants.
Residents interested in learning more about their local police department, building relationships with officers and gaining a better understanding of law enforcement are encouraged to apply.
