Public Works Week

Public Works Week

The City of New Hope joins the nationwide celebration of National Public Works Week, recognizing the essential role public works personnel play in maintaining a safe, healthy and vibrant community. From May 18 to May 24, 2025, the City honors the dedication, expertise and unwavering commitment of its public works staff.

Each year, Public Works Week highlights the individuals who design, build, operate and maintain the infrastructure and services that keep cities running. These services include transportation systems, water supply networks, sewer systems, public buildings, parks and more. The contributions of public works professionals are fundamental to the everyday lives of residents and the community's overall well-being.

In New Hope, the scope of public works operations is both broad and vital. City crews are responsible for maintaining the following:

  • 65 miles of city streets
  • 26 miles of sidewalks
  • 65 miles of water mains
  • 739 fire hydrants
  • 75 miles of sanitary sewer pipes
  • 57 miles of storm sewer pipes

New Hope’s Public Works department ensures the City’s infrastructure operates efficiently and safely. They often respond to emergencies and perform maintenance outside of regular business hours. Whether cleaning up after a storm, repairing a broken water main in the middle of the night, or keeping roads safe and accessible during snow events, their work often goes unseen but never unnoticed.
