Celebrate Earth Day with Simple Actions

Celebrate Earth Day with Simple Actions That Make a Difference
Posted on 04/21/2026

Earth Day is a good reminder that caring for the environment starts with everyday choices. In New Hope, residents have many simple ways to make a meaningful impact, from reducing waste at home to helping care for shared community spaces.

RECYCLE RIGHT AT THE CURB
Curbside recycling is one of the easiest ways to reduce waste and conserve resources. Residents can recycle accepted items such as paper, cardboard, cartons, metal cans and plastic bottles and containers. Keeping recycling clean and free of non-recyclable items helps ensure materials can be processed and reused properly.

For more information about what is accepted, visit hrg-recycling.com.

REDUCE WASTE WITH ORGANICS RECYCLING
Organics recycling is another easy way to make a difference. Food scraps, coffee grounds, paper towels and other compostable materials can be turned into compost instead of going to the landfill. That helps reduce waste, lower emissions and support healthier soil and plants.

To participate in curbside organics recycling, residents must register online at hrg-recycling.com/organics. A cart will be delivered approximately two weeks after signing up.

DISPOSE OF ITEMS RESPONSIBLY
Some items should not go in curbside trash or recycling carts. New Hope residents can safely get rid of many of those materials at the upcoming Special Materials Drop-Off Day on Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brooklyn Park Operations and Maintenance Facility, 8300 Noble Parkway.
The event provides a convenient way to dispose of items such as electronics, appliances, scrap metal, paper for shredding and more. Proper disposal helps protect the environment and ensures materials are handled safely.

HELP CARE FOR LOCAL PARKS
Residents can also make a difference by volunteering through New Hope’s Adopt-a-Park Program. Volunteers help keep parks clean, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone by picking up litter and helping care for these shared spaces.

To learn more, call New Hope Parks and Recreation at 763.531.5151.

PROTECT LOCAL WATERWAYS
Storm drains in New Hope flow directly to local lakes, wetlands and streams. When leaves, trash and debris collect near drains, they can wash into the stormwater system and affect water quality.

Residents can help by adopting a storm drain, keeping it clear and checking it regularly. Even small actions, like clearing debris near a drain or keeping yard waste out of the street, can make a big difference.

SMALL ACTIONS ADD UP
Whether you are recycling at the curb, composting at home, volunteering in a park or disposing of materials properly, each action helps build a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable community.
