The City of New Hope is recognizing the importance of trees in our community by proclaiming May 2026 as Arbor Month.
The New Hope City Council adopted the proclamation at its April 13 meeting as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to preserving and strengthening its urban forest. The designation also supports New Hope’s continued recognition as a Tree City USA, a distinction the City has maintained for 28 consecutive years.
The proclamation highlights the many benefits trees provide to the community. Trees help purify air and water, conserve soil, provide habitat for wildlife and create welcoming spaces for recreation. They also enhance the overall quality of life for residents across the city.
It also recognizes the challenges facing trees, including pollution, disease, drought and the impacts of urban development. These ongoing threats underscore the need for continued care, investment and community awareness to protect and sustain New Hope’s urban forest.
In addition, the proclamation acknowledges the City’s continued efforts to manage the impacts of emerald ash borer. New Hope is actively removing infested ash trees on public property and replacing them with a diverse mix of species to promote a healthier, more resilient tree canopy over time.
